Reiki

Reiki is a system of energetic hands-on healing developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in 1922. In the West, the term Reiki translates loosely to universal life energy. Reiki is based upon the theory that there is an inexhaustible source of ki or life energy in the universe (what we call Qi in Chinese Medicine Theory).

With training, this energy can be sourced, harnessed and channeled by Reiki practitioners through the use of their hands directly into their patients. Reiki utilizes specific techniques to initiate healing on a physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual level. Reiki treatments are performed fully clothed and can last anywhere from five minutes to two hours. Patients report feeling a sensation of warmth, tingling or more intense sensations of energy flowing from the practitioner’s hands into their body.

Tamara received her Reiki Master level after 2 years of training with Reiki Master Sandra Amazaga. At Red Bamboo Medicine she often incorporates Reiki simultaneously into her acupuncture sessions. Both modalities are energy-based therapeutic systems and founded upon the principle of working with Qi: in the case of Reiki, harnessing the universal Qi existing outside the patient and with acupuncture, regulating the internal Qi existing within the patient. Tamara has found both techniques to be highly complementary and very effective when used in conjunction.
